Ask the answering provider for its legal business name and relevant license numbers before authorizing plumbing work. A website name, a shared phone number, or a verbal claim of experience does not establish a credential. The name on the estimate should match the business you verify and the party you are agreeing to hire.

Check both relevant systems
Oregon's Building Codes Division says plumbing contractors need a CCB license and the appropriate BCD plumbing contractor credential. Use the official licensed-work guidance, which links both search systems. Do not treat finding one record as proof that every required credential is present.
The BCD search page distinguishes business and individual records. Ask which person and company will perform and contract for the work. Where you are unsure how a record applies, ask the licensing agency rather than interpreting a similar name as a match.
Match the details, not just the number
Compare the business name and current status with the estimate and the information supplied by the provider. Read any limitations or history in the official record. Record the date of the check because status can change. A screenshot or search result from an earlier year is not a current verification.
If the company changes after the first call, repeat the check for the actual recipient of the work. Do not assume one company's credentials cover another independent provider or subcontractor simply because they share a scheduling contact.
Keep other questions separate
A license check does not establish that a provider offers the needed diagnostic method, covers your address, has a particular appointment available, or charges a certain price. Ask those questions directly. If insurance or warranty terms matter to your decision, request the relevant current documentation rather than inferring them from a marketing phrase.
